The Berry Lab studies plant energetics — photosynthesis and respiration — from cellar processes through the biosphere.
Our current work focuses on measuring and modeling gross photosynthesis using remote sensing techniques. Although gross photosynthesis
is notoriously difficult to measure directly, we are investigating two new methods that show promise as indirect measures: the uptake
of carbonyl sulfide (COS), an analog of CO2, and the emission of solar induce chlorophyll fluorescence (SIF). My primary focus these
days is in on the latter: designing equipment and analysis tools for leaf- to plot-scale measurements. These data will be used to help
ground-truth and better interpret satellite-based SIF measurements.
